January 2023 — Kinfolk House Announces Local Artists to be Featured in its 2023 Projects
In July 2022, Kinfolk House launched a call for proposals from North Texas creatives to be considered for inclusion in the 2023 project schedule. The open call specified that the opportunity was open to artists working in any discipline, including but not limited to visual, literary, and performing arts. From the dozens of applications received, Deyjah Stewart (spring), Felicia Jordan (summer), and Charles Gray (fall) have been selected to exhibit their work at Kinfolk House this year.
The local artists selected for Kinfolk’s 2023 projects all speak to healing in a variety of ways. Deyjah Stewart’s assemblage installations reconceptualize solitude as a human condition concerning the past and present, home and family, memory, imagination, childhood, and the self. Felicia Jordan’s 3D printed sculptures incorporate traditional quilting techniques and investigate trauma faced by Black communities and other communities of color specifically in relation to the medical system. Charles Gray’s portraiture works in various mediums explore themes of friendship and connectedness through anime and personal iconography.
